*Edit - there were apparently some changes to the website backend that affected reviews that cause my first review to be lost. However, it's since been fixed and the Boston Vision team went out of their way to let me know about the technical issue. Here's my original review: The procedure went well overall, it's pretty quick and painless, albeit at times it can feel a bit fast. Rather than being walked through what each upcoming step was or told the specifics of the process ahead of time, I was moved between test stations and then into the OR and simply told what to do right before it happened. My issue with that is there was no time for questions: am I sitting in the right spot, am I looking where I'm supposed to, etc. This probably speaks highly to the confidence that the doctor's have with the process and the equipment, as I think those fears were mostly in my head, but it did add a bit of unease to the process. On the bright side you have less time in the OR, so perhaps less time for panic to set in, which might be a benefit for some. Overall I was at the office for about 2 hours with less than 15 minutes in the OR. That afternoon I went to sleep, with my only issue being that I had a foreign object feeling in my right eye, and it was watering like crazy. I woke up feeling reasonably well, my left eye was slightly dry, but the vision was pretty good, my right eye still had that foreign object feel, but was a bit better. At my morning after check-up the doctor told me I had a swollen eyelid, which looked somewhat like an allergic reaction. She said it wasn't uncommon except for the fact that it was only one eye (most reactions would happen to both). She instructed me to take some allergy medications, use a cold compress, and check in with her in the evening. That eye got better and felt closer to normal after a few days, so no additional intervention was needed. It was very reassuring to meet with someone that morning, and have a phone number directly to the doctor to check in with later in the day. Props to Dr. Ibrahim for that, she was very helpful and responsive to text. We're now a week+ later and continuing to improve, the left eye feels almost completely normal (very minor dryness, more so after looking at screens for a prolonged period of time), the right eye still has some more dryness which leads to an occasional foreign object feeling, but it is much improved from what it was and I would expect it to continue to improve over the coming weeks. Overall my vision is back to 20/20, I'm not seeing much in the way of starbursts or halos (I think I used to see more with my old glasses), and while there is a bit of dryness, I am happy with my choice. Obviously there are many risks associated with the procedure, so you should make your own decision about the risk vs. benefit, but in my experience it has been worth it. One recommendation that was passed to me if you do end up doing LASIK is to try and show up to the procedure a little tired, whether that is staying up late, having a little less caffeine, etc. That way you can easily fall asleep afterwards, as the first 4+ hours are definitely the toughest, and you're told to try and sleep at least that long.
